Letter Writing Campaign

Do you want to write letters to help Prisoners of Conscience around the world?

Don’t have the time?

Would you like an easy and convenient way to be involved?

For a donation of £10 you will receive 10 monthly letters, and addressed envelopes, relating to current prisoner campaigns.

All you have to do is sign the letter, put it in the ready prepared envelope, add a stamp and walk to the post box.

Over the last 6 years, Amnesty supporters from Shrewsbury and beyond have sent hundreds of letters.

You will also be kept up to date with any news received about prisoners who have featured in our letters.

“When the first 200 letters came the guards gave me back my clothes. Then the next 200 letters came and the prison director came to see me. When the next pile of letters arrived, the director got in touch with his superior. The letters kept coming and coming: three thousand of them. The President was informed. The letters still kept arriving and the President called the prison and told them to let me go.

After I was released the President called me to his office for a man to man talk. He said “How is it that a trade union leader like you has so many friends all over the world?” He showed me an enormous box full of letters he had received and, when we parted, he gave them to me. I still have them.” (Letter from a former prisoner)

To join the letter writing campaign, please send, with a cheque for £10 made payable to ‘Amnesty International Shrewsbury Group’, to Ian L’argent, 2 Red Barn Lane, Shrewsbury, SY3 7HR.
